Cullowhee, N.C. - The Brevard College women’s tennis team continued the 2010 season on the road against Western Carolina, taking on the Catamounts at the Catamount Athletic Complex on Thursday afternoon. Lindsay Shaeffer won her singles match, but the Tornados fell 6-1.
With the loss, Brevard falls to 0-2 on the season, while Western improves to 1-0.
The Tornados fell in all three doubles matches as Western captured the first point of the contest. Brevard #1 doubles team of Shaeffer and Kim Dixon fell to Amanda Massey and Ainhoa Iglesias Diaz, 8-6. Carolina Lainez and K. Jimenez Sarmiento topped Lindsay Hostetter and Claire Dillman 8-5, while BC’s Sara Douglas and Jennifer Nyman fell to Emily Turke and Izabella Glinska, 8-4.
In singles, Shaeffer defeated Massey in hard fought #1 singles match as the BC junior won 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 10-8. Hostetter fell to Lainez in #2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Dillman captured the second set of her match at #3 singles against Glinska, but fell 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Elisa Labus was also able to take the second set in her match at #4 singles against Diaz, but fell 6-1, 6-7, 6-0. Sarmiento defeated Dixon at #5 singles and Turke topped Nyman in three sets at #6 singles to close out the match.
Coach Paul Thomson’s team is back on the courts on Friday, February 26th, as the Tornados return home to host Lander at 2:30 p.m.
