Brevard, N.C. - The Tornados swept all three doubles matches and Lindsay Shaeffer clinched the win for the Tornados at #1 singles as Brevard topped #38 Lander on Friday afternoon at the BC Tennis Complex, 6-3.
Brevard improves to 1-2 on the season, while Lander falls to 6-2.
Kim Dixon and Shaeffer topped Lander’s Brandi Cordell and Aurelia Ruffat in #1 doubles, 8-3, while Claire Dillman and Lindsay Hostetter took #2 doubles for the Tornados in defeating Nicola James and Caitlin Fell, 8-2. Jennifer Nyman and Kayley Duval clinched the doubles’ sweep with their 8-6 win over the Bearcats’ Eliza Adusumilli and Ana Luiza Zaia.
Ruffat took the win for Lander at #2 singles, rallying to defeat Hostetter, 6-7, 6-3, 6-0, while James topped Duval at #4 singles, 6-2, 7-5. Melanise Newbold gave the Bearcats their final point of the afternoon, topping Elise Labus at #6 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
The Tornados took the points at #1, #3 and #5 singles as Dillman defeated Adusumilli 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 at #3, before Shaeffer clinched the match with her victory over Cordell at #1 singles, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4. Dixon added a final point for Brevard with her hard-fought 6-1, 7-6 (5) win over Fell.
The Tornados open South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, February 27th, as Brevard travels to Newberry College to take on the scarlet and gray with first serve coming at 2 p.m.
