Joining the women's soccer staff for the 2014 season will be Kristy Desimone, a 2011 graduate of Old Dominion. She currently serves as the head coach of the Highland Football Club’s U-11 girls team in Asheville. Desimone spent a year as the coach for the Hampton Road Strikers U-10 girls’ team where she focused heavily on developing player talents through training sessions. She also has served as the Program Director at Bumblebees and Little Strikers, which teaches the basic fundamentals of soccer to preschool-aged children.

“I’m excited to stretch my coaching legs in college and working at Brevard is an amazing opportunity,” Desimone said.

Outside of soccer, Desimone has worked with Women Are Getting Even, an organization dedicated to bridging gender salary gaps, and on a project to teach marine biology to students on the Elizabeth River.

“Kristy is very eager to learn in the coaching field in a collegiate program,” Shinohara said. “She’s got passion about youth coaching and she has coached a number of years for the youth programs. We are very happy to have her on our staff.”
