M. Lacrosse: Michael Markland

Michael Markland was named the men's lacrosse Interim Head Coach in the fall of 2015.

In his first season as interim head coach, Markland guided two players to SAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. Kyle Hunziker led the Tornados with 28 goals and 15 assists for 43 points on the season. Dennis Rammacher finished the 2016 season with the second-most caused turnovers in the conference with 23, and set the program record for Brevard.

As the assistant coach for the Tornados in 2014, Markland helped the team record eight wins and its first appearance in the South Atlantic Conference Championship. Under the guidance of Markland, then-goal keeper Andy Reilly was named South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week three times while leading the conference in total saves (217) on the third-highest percentage (53.7).

Prior to arriving at Brevard, Markland served as an assistant coach at Fort Mill High School in the Charlotte suburb of Fort Mill, South Carolina, where he helped the Yellow Jackets win the state championship in 2014. He has also coached travel teams.

Markland, an Alexandria, Virginia native, was a goalie for the nationally-ranked lacrosse team at Pfeiffer University and earned academic all-conference honors.

Markland graduated from Pfeiffer University in 2012 with a degree in Sport Management.
