Michael McClaran was named the head cross country coach at Brevard College in 2016 after being a volunteer Track and Field coach for the Tornados during the 2015-16 season.
Michael returns to his alma mater, as he was a member of the cross country and track teams in the early 1990’s when Brevard was a two-year school. Coach McClaran earned his associates degree in Business from Brevard College in 1992. As a member of the team, Michael helped Brevard to a NJCAA Cross Country National Championship in 1990. In 1991, he qualified for the World Cross Country Championships. He was a 4 time All-American in cross country and track at Brevard College.
Coach McClaran brings a wealth of experience to the Tornados program, as he was an All-American in track and field at Auburn University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion. He has also competed in a full Ironman Triathlon and is a 5-time 70.3 triathlon competitor.
Michael has helped to coach several cross country and track teams at the high school level. He helped New Prairie High School to a 5th place finish in state in 1998. In 2002, McClaran was inducted into the Indiana Association of Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
