Jamere Hogue returns for his third season at Brevard College, resuming his duties of tutoring the defensive line.
An Academic All-State pick in football twice and a three-time all-conference winner in both football and basketball, Jamere Hogue also lettered three times in track & field, competing in the 400m and 4x400m relay. A free safety at Morristown West High School, Hogue transitioned to Outside Linebacker his freshmen year for the Tennessee Technological University Golden Eagles and played in seven games with 10 tackles and an interception. As a sophomore, he was moved to tight end and caught seven passes for 57 yards and 2 touchdowns, including scores against Kansas State and University of Tennessee at Martin.
In his junior year he was moved into the “Bear” defensive end position, an innovate front popularized by the Chicago Bears in 1980’s by having the interior defensive line cover up their offensive counterparts. This off-set line gives the weak side DE more of a one-on-one matchup and a pure rush lane. Hogue became a mainstay on the defensive line using hand fighting techniques and good leverage, recording 29 total tackles with six tackles for a loss for the 2010 season. As a senior, Hogue was a valuable asset to the Golden Eagles number one ranked rushing defense, racking up 44 tackles on his way to being voted team captain and Most Valuable Defensive Lineman. Hogue helped lead the way to the team’s first Ohio Valley Conference regular season title in 36 years and the school’s first-ever NCAA playoff berth in 2011.
Hogue began his coaching career as a student assistant at his alma mater, working with the defensive line for Spring Ball after his senior season. After a couple of years in the private sector, Hogue returned to his gridiron roots and joined Brevard College in 2015, working with the defensive line while also assisting in the weight room. For 2017, his focus will be on developing the defensive front.
Jamere Hogue graduated with a bachelor of science in multi-interdisciplinary studies in 2012, which focuses on writing skills, critical thinking analysis, and problem solving under duress.
