BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard men's lacrosse puts its two-game winning streak on the line Tuesday evening when it plays host to Piedmont College at 7 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Field.
Brevard, now 5-2 on the season, is now three wins away from tying the program record for most wins (eight) in a single season, which took place in 2015 under Kevin Anderson in the second year of the program.
A triumph over the Lions on Tuesday would tie the program mark for most consecutive wins (three) with the 2015 unit that opened the season with victories against Shorter, Emmanuel and North Greenville.
Jackson McKaig leads the Tornados in goals (28) and points (40), while teammate Kyle Hunziker has handed out a team-best 15 assists. Hunziker is second on the unit in goals (21), followed closely by Hewitt Farr (11).
Xzavier Holmes-Copeland has made his presence felt in net for Brevard, making 73 saves (.541 save pct.) en route to a 5-2 record on the campaign.
The Tornados, who last appeared at home on March 3 against Methodist, came away with their first road win of the season on Saturday at Ferrum when they downed the Panthers 11-10. Brevard racked up three consecutive goals in the fourth quarter from Jack Shade, Farr and Hunziker to take the lead, and the defense kept Ferrum from tying the game after a late goal inside of a minute remaining to take home the win.
Piedmont (4-4) has dropped its last two contests after winning four straight to close out the month of February. The Lions were handed a 9-2 loss by Carthage College on March 6 and suffered a 10-8 setback at the hands of Pfeiffer over the weekend.
Brady Jenks (18 goals) and Jeremy Kohn (16) led the way offensively for the Lions, while Chase Goff has dished out a team-high 11 assists. Piedmont's goalkeeper duties have belonged to Zach Czulada this season, who has responded with 66 saves (.564 save pct.) and a 4-4 mark.
