  • Tornados Drop Tight Match at William Peace
    September 21, 2019
    The Brevard College Women’s Soccer team (0-4-2) dropped a tight 1-0 match at host William Peace University (2-3-1) on Saturday night at the Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. After a scoreless first half, William Peace scored in the 51st minute to take a 1-0 lead in what proved to be the match’s lone goal.

    The Brevard College Women’s Soccer team (0-3-2) fell 1-0 to Salem College (3-3) on Tuesday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
  • Tornados and Knights Play to 1-1 Draw

    Freshmen midfielders Brianna Link (one goal) and Emma Gooch (one assist) connected for the Tornados’ lone goal in the seventh minute as the Brevard College Tornados women’s soccer team (0-2-2) drew, 1-1 with the host Southern Virginia (1-4-1) on Saturday evening at Knight Stadium in Buena Vista, Va.  Junior goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas (0-2-2) turned away six Knight shots as the Tornado defense held Southern Virginia scoreless through the second half and both overtime, despite facing an onslaught of shots. 
  • Tornados’ Late Comeback Attempt Falls Short in Winston-Salem

    Brevard College freshman forward/midfielder Kyndall Cochran tallied her first-career regular-season goal as a collegiate athlete in a late comeback attempt that came up just short as the BC Tornados women’s soccer team (0-2-1) fell in neutral-site action to the N.C. Wesleyan College Battling Bishops (1-2), 2-1 at the BB&T Sports Park in Winston-Salem, N.C.  Cochran’s strike came in the 81st minute off an Abbie Petrosky corner kick from the near sideline. Petrosky sailed the ball perfectly into the right side of the box, where Cochran took one touch and struck the ball into the bottom left corner past the Battling Bishop keeper. The score gave the Tornados new life, cutting the N.C. Wesleyan lead in half. However, the Battling Bishops were able to stave off the comeback bid, claiming the narrow victory. 
  • Women's Soccer Adds Neutral-Site Match Against N.C. Wesleyan, Announces Further Schedule Changes

    Head Women's Soccer Coach Juan Mascaro has announced that the Brevard College Tornados Women's Soccer team will be playing in a neutral-site contest on Wednesday, September 11 at 6 p.m. versus USA South Conference member N.C. Wesleyan College at the BB&T Sports Park in Winston-Salem, N.C.  The news comes after the Tornados were forced to cancel last Saturday's match against Methodist University due to the effects of Hurricane Dorian. 
  • Pair of Second-Half Goals Lift Bruins Past Tornados

    Freshman forward Ashley Royster scored her first-career goal, however, it wasn’t enough as the Brevard College Tornados Women’s Soccer team (0-1-1) conceded two second-half goals in a Wednesday evening defeat to the Piedmont International Bruins (2-0-1), 3-1, at the BB&T Sports Park in Winston-Salem, N.C. Royster led the attacking effort for the Tornados, firing five total shots-on-goal, while one found the back of the net. The Mooresville, N.C. native was played in with a pass from sophomore Abbie Petrosky and drove home the shot for her first collegiate goal.
  • Rojas Named USA South Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

    After an impressive season-opener last Friday night versus Emory & Henry, junior goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas has been selected as the USA South Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Rojas becomes the first Tornado student-athlete to earn the honor in the 2019-20 academic year. The Murrieta, Calif. native earned the honor once in her sophomore season as well.
  • Women’s Soccer Match at Methodist Canceled due to Hurricane Dorian

    Due to the potential effects of Hurricane Dorian on the coast of North Carolina, Saturday’s match between the Brevard College Women’s Soccer team and the Methodist University Monarchs has been canceled, with no makeup date planned. The Tornados will travel to Piedmont International University in Winston-Salem, N.C. as originally scheduled on Wednesday for a match at 5 p.m. Brevard will then travel to Allen University (Sept. 10, 7 p.m.) and Southern Virginia (Sept. 14, 6 p.m.) before returning home on Tuesday, September 17 to face Salem College at 7 p.m.
  • Tornados and Wasps Draw to Open 2019

    The Brevard College Tornados Women’s Soccer team (0-0-1) earned a draw in its season debut versus out-of-conference opponent Emory & Henry (0-0-1) on Friday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  Goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas (0-0-1) kept a clean sheet to lead a spirited defensive effort through the 110 minutes played on Friday evening. Rojas, a junior from Murrieta, California, saved seven total shots in the contest.  The Tornados, who took 10 shots-on-goal throughout the night, were led by sophomore Alyssa Hetherington and freshman Emma Gooch, who took three shots apiece.

    The Brevard College Department of Athletics and BSN Sports have launched the Brevard Tornados official online team store, offering fans the latest in branded Tornados gear including many NIKE products.
  • Season Preview: BC Women’s Soccer Tabbed Fifth in USA South West Division Preseason Poll

    The Brevard College Women’s Soccer team was selected fifth in the annual USA South Conference Women’s Soccer preseason poll on Wednesday afternoon. The Tornados received 38 points in the 2019 edition of the preseason poll, which placed them fifth in the west division. Defending USA South Conference champion Piedmont College was awarded first place, as the Lions tabulated five first-place votes and 61 total points. The Lions narrowly edged Maryville College in the poll. The Scots tallied the remaining four first-place votes as well as 60 total points. Covenant College (3rd, 48) and Huntingdon College (4th, 41) finished just ahead of Brevard in the poll. The west division was rounded out by Berea College (6th, 27), Agnes Scott (7th, 24), LaGrange College (8th, 13) and Wesleyan College (9th, 12).

    ASHEVILLE, N.C. (August 19, 2019) – College Soccer – As Western North Carolina’s women’s college soccer teams start into their 2019 schedules in the next two weeks, a familiar name will return to the sidelines at Brevard College. Ashley Hughes, the top WNC scorer among all men’s and women’s soccer players last year, will return to Brevard this fall and serve under fourth-year head coach Juan Mascaro as a volunteer assistant coach.

    Head Women’s Soccer Coach Juan Mascaro has announced the addition of Brevard College alumna Ashley Hughes ‘19 to the BC Women’s Soccer coaching staff. Hughes will serve as the team’s Volunteer Assistant Coach.
  • 91 Brevard College Student-Athletes Named USA South Academic All-Conference

    The USA South Conference on Friday morning released its annual USA South Academic All-Conference list, selecting 91 Brevard College student-athletes as Academic All-Conference selections. Additionally, 18 student-athletes collected “With Distinction” Academic All-Conference honors, accruing at least a 3.9 grade point average in both the Fall and Spring semesters.
