RALEIGH, N.C. – Four Tornados reached double-figures as the Brevard College men's basketball team (8-6, 3-2 USA South) surged past William Peace (2-14, 0-5 USAS) 74-51 on Saturday afternoon at the Hermann Student Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The victory marks the third-straight USA South Conference victory for the Tornados, who are currently tied for third in the league standings. The win also exacts some revenge, as WPU knocked BC out of the 2024 USA South Conference Tournament First Round a season ago.
Senior guard
KK Horton led the way for BC, scoring 18 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the field with four rebounds and four assists while also leading Brevard's defense with four steals. Freshman guard
Brennan Wansley added 13 points to pace a sensational performance by Brevard's bench, as the Buford, Georgia product knocked in five field goals including a 3-pointer, hit a pair of free throws, and snatched a team-best six rebounds. Graduate guard
Carson Evans made an immediate impact on the contest with 11 points on a 5-for-6 shooting mark.
Justen Goudelock poured in a career-high 11 points with three rebounds as well.
Brevard took advantage of Pacer miscues with 20 points-off-turnovers, and BC poured in 33 points off the bench. The Tornados dominated the painted area, scoring 50 of their 74 points down low. Brevard shot 57% from the field and made six 3-pointers, taking advantage of an extremely hot second half as the Tornados drilled 19 of their 29 shot attempts (66%) down the stretch. Conversely, the Tornados held William Peace to a 35% mark from the field.
BC pulled ahead through the first 10 minutes of play, holding a 17-10 advantage after a jumper by Horton at the 9:34 mark. William Peace kept the contest within single digits until the end of the first half when
Twain Wilson canned a 3-pointer off a Horton assist, giving the Tornados a 32-22 edge at the intermission.
William Peace cut the deficit to five points, 40-35, after an and-one 3-pointer by Elijah Green – who led the Pacers with 15 points in the contest - at the 13:02 mark. That would prove to be as close as the Pacers would come, as Brevard went on a dominant 25-4 scoring run that put the Tornados up 63-39 with 5:41 to go. BC would wrap up the victory, cruising to the 23-point win.
BC returns home looking to keep its winning ways going, as the Nados face off against Pfeiffer on Tuesday, January 21 at 5:30 p.m.
