RALEIGH, N.C. – The Brevard College men's tennis team (8-1, 1-0 USA South) dropped William Peace University (1-3, 0-2 USAS) by a final of 5-2 as the Tornados earned a victory in their first USA South Conference contest of 2024-25 on Friday afternoon.
BC picked up two-of-three doubles matches, and finished the match off by taking four singles wins.
Hayden LeBlanc and
Ethan McGee teamed up for a 6-2 triumph in the top-flight doubles match, while
Noah Lewis and
Peter Bresko pulled out a 7-5 win at the no. 2 spot, wrapping up a crucial doubles point for the Tornados.
In singles play, WPU's Juliann Starland came away with a three-set thriller at the top flight.
Bryce Bernitt fell behind in the first set, 4-6, before sweeping set number two, 6-0. Starland responded in the tiebreaking third set, clinching the match with an 11-9 result.
Ayden Montero (no. 2),
Noah Boyles (no. 3),
Caelan Byrd (no. 5), and
David Hoyle (no. 6) clinched the match for BC by winning their respective singles competitions. Brevard improves to an 8-1 record on the season, as its best start to a season in the NCAA era continues.
BC next competes on Tuesday, March 25, as the Tornados dip out of USA South play for a non-conference test in Lookout Mountain, Georgia at 3:30 p.m. against Covenant College.
