BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's and women's cross country teams successfully hosted the Third Annual Brevard XC Classic at the Brevard AirStrip on Friday morning.
 
The competitive field featured runners from Brevard, Columbia, Greensboro, JWU Charlotte, Milligan, and USC Upstate.
 
In the men's 8,000-meter race, Ethan Carlan paced the Tornados with a 16^th-place finish, completing the course in 28:59.8. Fellow junior Matthew Harris was not far off, finishing 20^th with a time of 29:24.0.
 
Caden Fuller (33^rd, 31:30.1) and Flint Hoyt (34^th, 31:38.3) each set collegiate PR's, followed by Shea Granger's 35^th-place mark completed in 31:49.9. Granger was honored in a special pre-meet Senior Day ceremony prior to the race.
 
Devon Joseph also set a collegiate PR in the meet, while Colbin Hill, Trace Zeh, Jaden Reinhart, and Parker Sharpe rounded out the field for the Tornados, who as a team finished in third place out of five teams.
 
On the women's side, Malayka Rankin surged to lead the Tornados in her first collegiate meet. The junior from Winston-Salem, North Carolina who is a member of the BC women's basketball program finished 29^th in the 5,000-meter race, completing the course in 24:53.5. Rankin was followed closely by Molly Perry's season-best mark (30^th, 24:59.4), and Karley Call's personal-best performance (31^st, 25:02.5). Jordan Frenette, who also set a new PR, and Sofia Hardin also completed the race for the Tornados.
 
USC Upstate's Jordan Thornton claimed the crown on the women's side with a time of 20:12.6, while Upstate's Mason Parish earned the first-place finish on the men's side, completing the course in 26:55.3.
 
The Tornados return to action on Saturday, October 3 for the Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic, hosted by the University of Louisville at 9 a.m. in Kentucky.
