Jarren Horton enters his first season as the Associate Head Coach-Defense/Defensive Coordinator for Brevard College in 2026. A Portland State graduate, Horton arrives in Brevard following a successful stint as Defensive Coordinator for the Memphis Showboats of the United Football League (UFL), where his 2025 defense finished as the league's top-ranked pass defense.
Prior to Memphis, he spent three seasons with the Pittsburgh Maulers organization, serving as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach from 2022-24. During the 2023 campaign, the Maulers fielded one of the most dominant defenses in spring professional football history, leading the USFL in total defense, scoring defense, passing defense, rushing defense, takeaways, passes defended, red zone defense, and third down defense. His leadership and success earned him USFL Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2023, further cementing his reputation as one of the game's rising defensive minds.
His collegiate coaching experience includes three seasons at the University of Connecticut, where he coached the Huskies' stars, nickels, dimes, and defensive backs while also serving as interim defensive coordinator. He also coached the secondary for the Atlanta Legends of the Alliance of American Football in 2019 and worked as a defensive graduate assistant at Southeastern Louisiana in 2018.
Earlier in his career, he gained valuable experience in both the SEC and NFL ranks. He served as a defensive analytics assistant at Vanderbilt University in 2015 and 2017 and spent the 2016 season as a coaching assistant with the Cleveland Browns.
Now at Brevard College, he brings more than a decade of coaching experience from the professional and collegiate ranks, along with a championship-caliber defensive pedigree and a history of maximizing talent and creating disruptive, high-performing defenses.
