Tornados Halted in Salisbury

SALISBURY, N.C.- The Brevard College men's basketball team couldn't hold a second-half lead against Catawba College on Saturday afternoon as the Indians rallied to take a 90-79 win in South Atlantic Conference action from Goodman Gym.

With BC (4-20, 4-16 SAC) ahead 63-62 at the 12:35 mark in the second half, the Indians (7-17, 7-13 SAC) engineered a 21-8 run to take a 83-71 lead with 5:20 remaining in the game.

The Tornados answered with six straight points to make it a six-point game with 3:46 left but couldn't get any closer before Catawba pushed their lead back to double digits to put the game away.

Leathers finished with a game-high 25 points and eight boards while freshman Trevon Shaw had 19 points and six rebounds.

The Tornados started strong and led by as many as eight points in the opening half before taking a 48-45 lead into the break. BC had the lead for the final 7:28 of the first half after Miles Leathers broke a 25-25 tie with a layup in the midst of seven straight points for the Tornados.

Alex Moe narrowly missed a double-double, going for 10 points and nine rebounds while Darius Moose netted 15 points to go with seven boards.

Five Indians finished in double figures, highlighted by a 16-point, 13-rebound double-double from Vismantas Marijosius.

The Tornados return to Boshamer Gymnasium for their final two games of the season as they host Mars Hill on Wednesday and Wingate on Saturday. Tipoff for Wednesday's game against the Lions (6-19, 4-16 SAC) is set for 8 p.m.
