SALISBURY, N.C. - The Brevard Men's soccer team (5-4-1, 2-3 SAC) lost in a heartbreaker to the Indians of Catawba (5-3, 2-3 SAC) Saturday night by a score of 1-0 in double overtime.
The game would remain scoreless for the first 90 minutes of regulation play and through the first 10-minute overtime. However, in the 101 minute of the match, Catawba's Daniele Proch would throw the ball in, hitting Declan Stimson, who would send the ball inside the goal toward the back post to end the thriller.
Brevard's freshman goal keeper, Eric Lenhart (Asheville, N.C.) would have a solid day in goal as he finished the day with four saves, and kept the Indians silent for the first one hundred minutes of the match.
The Indians had a 13-6 shot advantage over Brevard. The Tornados' offense was led by senior, Camilo Sosa (Shelby, N.C.), who finished the day with two shot attempts including one shot on goal. Ryan McPhillips (Glasgow, Scotland), Winston Haddock (Mooresville, N.C.), Brock Tuttle (Harrisburg N.C.), and Tyler Nelson (Hope Mills, N.C.) would each add a shot to the total shot attempts for the day.
Brevard returns to the field October 8, as they take on Wingate during Homecoming weekend. The match is set to begin at 7:30 pm.
