Tornados drop 42-7 decision to Indians

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Brevard College Football team (1-8, 0-5 SAC) closed out their final run at the Catawba College Indians (4-5, 4-1 SAC) as part of the South Atlantic Conference with a 42-7 loss to the Indians in Salisbury, N.C.


The Indians would get on the board in the opening quarter, taking the opening kickoff 65-yards on 10 plays to go up 7-0 on the Tornados on a Eamon Smart one-yard touchdown run.
Catawba would add two more first quarter scores on a Joseph Dress eight-yard touchdown scamper and a one-yard touchdown pass from Dress to Andy Hunt that put the Indians up 21-0. Catawba would add one more score before halftime to take a 28-0 lead on a Dantereus James nine-yard rushing touchdown.


Following a scoreless third quarter of play, the Indians would add their final two scores of the game to go up 42-0 on the Tornados as David Burgess and Kenyatta Greene each added rushing scores.


The Tornados would get on the board with 1:23 remaining in the contest as Jarkevius Hopkins (Mt. Holly, N.C.) punched in a three-yard rushing score, capping off a Tornados 80-yard, 12 play drive that last 5:14.


Offensively, Brevard was led by redshirt-sophomore fullback Karris Johnson (San Ramon, Calif.) who finished with a team-high 69-yards on the ground. Sophomore Quarterback Bubba Craven (Pleasant Garden, N.C.) added 54 rushing yards and 14-yards through the air, completing passes to redshirt sophomore Tyler Gregory (Williamson, Ga.) and senior Alex Drasser (Lake Lure, N.C.). Hopkins would finish with 19-yards for the game and the lone Tornados touchdown, as the Mt. Holly, N.C. native added Brevard's longest run of the afternoon on a 15-yard carry.


Sophomore Ashud Moore (Ellenwood, Ga.) recorded a game-high eight solo tackles on his way to 12 for the game, while freshman Richard Ramos Jr. (Lawrenceville, Ga. ) and junior Jinsly Jhon (Fort Pierce, Fla.) who had missed the last two games due to an injury, each contributed seven stops apiece. Sophomore Axel Easter (Graham, N.C.) recorded the Tornados only tackle for loss, while senior Casey Shubert (Conyers, Ga.) who is tied for the team lead with three interceptions added three tackles and one pass breakup.


Brevard will return to the gridiron this coming weekend as they host the Lenior-Rhyne Bears Saturday, November 5 at 1 p.m. from Brevard Memorial Stadium for the final home game of the 2016. As part of the final home game festivities, the Tornados will celebrate senior day prior to the 1 p.m. kickoff.
