Tornados fall to East Stroudsburg

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Football team opened the 2016 season Thursday evening at Brevard Memorial Stadium as they played host to East Stroudsburg University for the NCAA Division II Kickoff. A strong offensive night for Warriors tailback Robert Healy proved to be the difference as the Tornados they fell by a final of 14-49.


Following an opening one yard run by Healy, the Brevard College Tornados would even the contest at 7 apiece on a four yard run by Jarkevius Hopkins (Mt. Holly, N.C.) that capped of an impressive Tornados 15 play 78 yard drive.


A late second quarter touchdown pass from East Stroudsburg quarterback Bruce Campbell to Sean Roth would give the Warriors a 14-7 advantage heading into halftime.


The Warriors would add three more third quarter scores on another Bruce Campbell touchdown throw to Tim Wilson followed by back-to-back rushing scores from tailback Robert Healy.


Senior fullback Isaac German (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) would spark some life back into the Tornados offense early in the fourth quarter punching in a three yard touchdown run to pull Brevard to within 21 of the Warriors. German's redzone score capped off the Tornados longest drive of the evening as the Mount Pleasant, S.C. native finished off a 9:39 minute, 15 play, 77 yard drive.


Hopkins would pace the Tornados offense with 46 total yards on eight attempts, while Karris Johnson (San Ramon, Calif.), German, and sophomore quarterback Tyler Gregory (Williamson, Ga.) would all finish the contest with 40 or more rushing yards on the evening.


Defensively, Brevard was led by junior Jinsly Jhon (Fort Pierce, Fla.) and Axel Easter (Graham, N.C.) as the pair finished with five solo tackles apiece, as Jhon added and additional five assisted tackles to lead the Tornados with 10 for the game. Easter would also collect one of the team's two sacks for the contest as sophomore outside lineback Josh Allman (Belmont, N.C.) gathered the remaining quarterback take down to finish the game with four total tackles and a forced fumble that we recovered by the offense.


The Tornados will return back to the gridiron Saturday, September 10 as they travel to Virginia to face off with Emory & Henry with kickoff set for 3 p.m.
