SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Brevard College Women's Soccer team improved to 2-0 on the young season with an impressive showing at the Upward Star Sports Center in Spartanburg, S.C. as the Tornados powered in four goals in the scorching South Carolina heat to improve to 2-0 for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

Senior Anita Maryskova (Liberec, Czech Republic) set the tone early for the Tornados as she played a ball from teammate Megan Shina (Jamestown, N.C.) that allowed the midfielder to juke out the Oglethorpe centerback, slide inside the 18-yard box and slip a shot past Storming Petrels keeper Deidra Alexander.

Brevard would increase their lead to 2-0 early in the second half as sophomore Caroline David (Charlotte, N.C.) beat Alexander to the right from the left side goalie box. The shot came off a corner kick by Kassidy Hunsaker (Charlotte, N.C.) that sailed long of the net into the one touch footwork of junior Kaylee Smith (Naples, Fla.) who fed David the ball in prime scoring position.

The Tornados would strike for their third goal just under three minutes later as junior Kathleen Gant (Columbia, S.C.) fired a free kick attempt from near the 30-yard line over the head of Alexander. Freshman Audrey Cardwell (Denver, N.C.) would net Brevard's final game point on a kick from near midfield that took a beneficial Brevard bounce and slipped over the head of a charger Oglethorpe goaltender Tabitha Floyd.

Maryskova led the Tornados attack with four total shot attempts and three shots on goal, while David, Cardwell, and Ashley Mevoli (St. Petersburg, Fla.) each finished the afternoon with three shot attempts apiece. Brevard finished the contest with 22 total shots and 11 shots on goal as eight other Tornados registered shots.

Defensively, the Tornados were led by sophomore Elise Youmans (West Hartford, Conn.) who registered three saves in 81:00 minutes in net. Junior Courtney Perkins (Tarboro, N.C) also saw time in goal for Brevard as the Tarboro, N.C. native combined with Youmans to give the Tornados back-to-back shutouts on the season.

Brevard will look to make it three consecutive wins as they travel to Emory and Henry on Friday, September 9 for a 7 p.m. game time with the Wasps.
