Tornados Drop Pair of USA South Contests

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team (3-18, 1-11 USAS) dropped a pair of USA South Conference matches at a league quad-match on Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina.

BC fell 3-0 to host Meredith College (15-9, 7-4 USAS) in the Tornados' first match of the day, followed by a 3-0 defeat to William Peace University (18-6, 8-2 USAS) in neutral-site action.

Match 1 - Meredith 3, Brevard 0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-12)

Sophomore Ashley Hoxit and Junior Makenna Parkins led the Tornados offensively with seven kills apiece.  Junior Kaitlyn Pressley added six kills to go along with 10 assists and five digs. 

Sophomore setter Logan Priddy led BC with 11 assists, while junior libero Bailey Lance recorded a team-best 10 digs.

BC battled in the second set in particular, a close affair that came down to the final points in the stanza.  Down 15-6, Brevard went on a sensational 11-3 scoring run behind strong services by Lance and Grace Pukas

Meredith responded with a run of their own to set up a 24-18 set point.  The Tornados however kept battling and fended off five straight set points as Hoxit served an ace followed by back-to-back kills by Parkins and a kill by Blair Nance off an assist by Pressley.  The home team though finally did get its set point to take a 2-0 lead en route to the straight-set win.

Match 2 - William Peace 3, Brevard 0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-11)

Hoxit and Parkins again led the attack at the net with nine kills each.  Priddy (13 assists) and Pressley (10 ast.) led the BC distribution.  Lance registered 13 digs to go along with eight digs by both Pressley and Priddy. 

As a team, Brevard registered 11 service aces led by five service winners by Priddy and four by Hoxit.  Lance added two aces to the cause.

Similar to the early match, BC played its opponent especially well in the second set.  The Tornados used a 7-0 scoring run which included three straight aces by Priddy to storm ahead to a 21-18 lead.

The Pacers came back to tie the match at 21-21 before the lead went back and forth between the two conference foes.  A kill by Pressley, assisted by Priddy, tied the score 24-24.  However, WPU put together back-to-back points to seal the set win to propel the Pacers to a three-set win.

The Tornados return to campus for their final home game of the year on Tuesday evening vs. Greensboro on Senior Night at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the Senior Night ceremony occurring pregame.
