Tornados Take Care of Owls at the Bosh

Parkins Leads All Tornados with 17, Hester and Miller Add 16 Each

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's basketball team (3-1) defeated Warren Wilson College (0-7) 85-69 on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  Brevard used a dominant third quarter, outscoring the Owls 29-14 in the period to secure the non-conference victory.

Senior Makenna Parkins led the Tornados with 17 points on a highly efficient 8-of-12 shooting from the field.  The native of Marion, North Carolina added six rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot to round out her effort.

Sophomore Olivia Miller scored 16 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.  Junior Josie Hester, who has registered double-digit points in every game this season, also scored 16 points, draining a game-high three 3-pointers.  Sophomore Christena Rhone pulled down a career-high seven rebounds, while also scoring six points on two 3-pointers.

Eleven Tornados in total found the scoring column as BC registered 41 bench points compared to 15 points coming from Warren Wilson reserves.

WWC's Weronika Swojak led all scorers, posting a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Tatyana Lewis added 18 points for the Owls.

Brevard shot well in the first quarter with a 67% shooting percentage to take a 26-17 lead.  Warren Wilson then responded by outscoring BC 19-17 in the second quarter to cut the deficit to seven points at the intermission.

The Owls cut into BC's lead even further after a fast-break layup made the score 45-40 with eight minutes left in the stanza.  Brevard then exploded with a 16-0 scoring run capped off by a 3-pointer by Hester, a jumper by point guard Lexi Shepard and a lay-up by Parkins to give the hosts a 61-40 advantage.

Leading 72-50 at the end of three quarters, BC's cushion proved to be enough despite the Owls taking a 19-13 advantage in the third.

Brevard outshot Warren Wilson 49% to 37% from the field.  The Owls made ten 3-pointers compared to just five by the Tornados.  BC outrebounds WWC 45-36 including an 11-6 edge on the offensive glass.

Following the Thanksgiving holiday, Brevard will return to action on Tuesday, November 28 with a home non-conference matchup vs. Berry College.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
