Brevard Withstands Late Oglethorpe Rally in Atlanta to Win Third-Straight

Quincy Carter Leads the Way with 23 Points

ATLANTA - Graduate guard Quincy Carter led the way with 23 points as the Brevard College men's basketball team (3-3) held off a late rally by Oglethorpe University (2-4) to take a 71-68 victory to win its third-straight game on Tuesday evening in Atlanta.

Carter led all Tornados with 23 points on seven made field goals that included a game-best five makes from beyond the 3-point arc to go alongside six rebounds and a pair of steals. Jeremy Posner poured in 16 points in 18 minutes off the bench, hitting six field goals with four made 3-point buckets. Senior guard Carson Evans put up 13 points with three made 3's, junior guard Kavan Horton grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists, and senior guard Charles Reed notched a pair of steals.

Oglethorpe's Perry Robinson led all scorers with 28 points on 10-of-13 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line. Uba Ezigbo added 15 points while Jackson Kemp also reached double figures with 11 points in addition to eight rebounds.

Brevard outpaced the Stormy Petrels 14-4 from behind the 3-point line, while Oglethorpe was able to outshoot BC slightly 45% to 43%. The hosts were able to put up 21 total free throw attempts compared to just eight from Brevard, while the Tornados bench outpaced Oglethorpe's 27-3. Ultimately, BC's 42 points from beyond the arc compared to just 12 for Oglethorpe proved enough to push the Tornados to victory.

Three-consecutive 3-pointers gave Brevard an early seven-point edge, 9-2. BC pushed its edge up to a 10-point margin, 18-8, following a long-range bucket from Posner, and extended it out to a 12-point, 26-14 edge when Chancey Watson hit a long-range bucket at the 8:26 mark in the first half. Oglethorpe battled back however, cutting the deficit down to just three points before the Tornados took a four-point lead, 36-32, into the halftime break.

Oglethorpe began the second half on a 15-5 scoring run through the first six-plus minutes of action to take a 47-41 lead. Brevard answered back with a 13-4 run of its own to retake a 60-53 lead with 8:37 left to play.

Brevard took a 10-point, 70-60 lead with 2:53 left to play before Oglethorpe used a 6-0 run to cut the Tornado lead to within four points, 70-66, with 48 seconds left. Carter was able to hit a clutch free throw down the stretch, as Brevard held on for the three-point victory, 71-68.

The Tornados return home to face off against Bob Jones University for the second time this season as BC hosts the Bruins on Friday at 7 p.m.
