BC Takes Down Carolina University for Third Straight Win

Richardson Scores Game-Winner in 74th Minute

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's soccer team (4-2) defeated Carolina University (2-4-1) in a 2-1 come-from-behind victory on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  The victory marked the third straight win for the Tornados.  Over the three-game win streak, BC has outscored its opponents 15-1.

Freshman midfielder Austin Huffman scored her first career collegiate goal and recorded an assist to lead Brevard offensively.  Senior forward Taylor Richardson scored BC's second goal, her fourth goal in as many games after registering a hat trick on Wednesday vs. Warren Wilson.

BC's sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Arroyo earned the win for Brevard, registering four saves.  Carolina's goalkeeper Kloe Totel recorded seven saves in the defeat.

After an opening 16 minutes of scoreless soccer, Carolina struck first with a goal by Natasha Mariam off an assist from Destini Wilson.

The score remained 1-0 through the first half, despite the Tornados taking five shots in the stanza.  Coming out of the intermission, BC found the back of the net with a goal by Huffman in heavy traffic off an assist by senior Grace Black.

Tied 1-1 for the next 23 minutes, BC found the go-ahead goal as Huffman set up Richardson who promptly found the back of the net, giving the Tornados a 2-1 advantage.

Brevard's defense led by center back Abbie Worsencroft held off the Bruins for the remainder of the contest to seal the home, non-conference victory.

BC outshot Carolina 12-8 in the contest to go along with a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.  The Bruins committed 11 fouls, compared to 10 fouls by the Tornados.

The victory gave BC a 3-2 edge in the all-time series over Carolina, avenging a 1-0 defeat last season in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Next up for Brevard is the start of USA South Conference play with a Homecoming Weekend matchup with N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday, September 23 at 11 a.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
