Miller’s Career Game, Big Second Half Run Leads Brevard to 20-Point Conference W

Olivia Miller Tallies 18 Points, 12 Rebounds, and Nine Assists in Winning Effort

BREVARD, N.C. - Sophomore forward Olivia Miller turned in an outstanding individual performance while the Brevard College women's basketball team (12-4, 7-3 USA South) used a sizeable second-half scoring run to defeat William Peace University (6-11, 4-7 USAS) 78-58 on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

With the score all level at 43-43 with 2:23 left to play in the third quarter, Brevard jumped out to a quick 13-0 scoring run to end the period. BC carried that momentum over into the fourth quarter, capping off a 20-3 run between the two quarters. The Tornados used a 22-15 edge in the fourth period to finish off the 20-point triumph.

Miller, a sophomore from Hudson, North Carolina, was just one assist shy of notching her first career triple-double, as the forward finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists to go alongside three steals, a block, and a 9-of-12 shooting mark from the field. The effort was Miller's third double-double of the 2023-24 season, and the fifth of her two-year collegiate career.

Miller was one of a season-high five double-digit scorers for the Tornados, as Jada Petty-Wilkins added a season and career-high 16 points, nailing four buckets from long-range. Naliyah Boyce, Christena Rhone, and Lexi Shepard all scored 12 points apiece, with Makayla Street adding six points and seven rebounds off the bench. Miller, Rhone, and Street all led the Tornado defense with three steals apiece.

Brevard outshot William Peace 50% to 32%, while the Pacers held a slight 9-8 edge on 3-pointers made. BC turned 24 WPU turnovers into 30 points and Brevard held a dominant 42-18 edge on points down low.

The visitors were led by Nautica Smiley, who scored 14 points. Hannah Lewis grabbed a team-best seven rebounds in addition to seven points scored.

Brevard is back in action next Saturday, January 27 for a 2 p.m. tip against current first-place Southern Virginia University at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
