Boyce and Rhone Lead Tornados Past Falcons, 64-54

Rhone Drops Career-High 17; Boyce Posts 16 Points, Seven Rebounds, and Six Assists

BREVARD, N.C. - Sophomore guard Christena Rhone poured in a career-best 17 points with five 3-pointers, while junior center Naliyah Boyce stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, as the Brevard College women's basketball team (13-5, 8-4 USA South) held off Pfeiffer University (4-14, 3-10 USAS) by a final of 64-54 on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

Rhone, a second-year guard from Morganton, North Carolina, scored in double figures for the third time in the last four contests and posted a collegiate career-high 17 points, with 15 of those points coming from behind the 3-point arc. Boyce added 16 points while also grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out six assists from her post position. Boyce's 16-point output marked the third-straight game that she has reached double-digit points.

Olivia Miller and Jada Petty-Wilkins each added eight points, while Makayla Street scored seven points and grabbed three boards. Miller dished out five assists, while Lexi Shepard hauled in five rebounds.

The Tornados never trailed in the contest, going wire-to-wire for the win despite the Falcons hanging around until the late stages of action. Brevard held a 17-11 edge after the first period before an up-tempo second quarter led to an 11-point halftime lead for the hosts, 41-30. BC had a 17-12 advantage in the third period of action, but Pfeiffer held Brevard to just six points in the fourth and final period. The Tornados in turn allowed just 12 points in the fourth quarter to wrap up the 10-point victory.

Brevard hit its field goals at a 46% clip and made eight 3-point baskets. BC's defense smothered the Falcons and forced Pfeiffer into 26 turnovers, which Brevard turned into 21 points off turnovers. BC also held a 30-22 edge in the paint, while Pfeiffer outrebounded Brevard 30-22.

Pfeiffer had two double-digit scorers in Alexis Bynum (14 points) and Hannah Isley (13 points), while Lola Cabiness-Ali hauled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

BC hits the road for consecutive road contests this weekend, with the Tornados first heading to Rocky Mount, North Carolina on Friday night for a 7 p.m. tip at NC Wesleyan University before a Saturday meeting with Meredith College at 2 p.m. in Raleigh, North Carolina.
