Box Score BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Brevard College men's basketball team (5-8, 0-2 USAS) dropped a USA South Conference affair 79-73 to host Southern Virginia University (4-9, 1-1 USAS) on Saturday afternoon in Buena Vista, Virginia.
Four Tornados scored in double figures led by sophomore
Jadon Carnes who posted 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including two made 3-pointers.
BC guards
Quincy Carter,
Carson Evans and
Charlie Hester each registered 11 points. Carter shot 4-of-9 with three assists and a blocked shot defensively. Evans shot 4-of-6 from the field with two made 3-pointers, while recording team highs in rebounds (7), assists (4) and steals (2). Hester was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc to go along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Senior
Sly White came off the bench to add eight points, going 2-for-2 on 3-pointers.
Southern Virginia's Koa Baker led all players with 32 points and nine rebounds.
Brevard shot 48% from the field and was 10-of-28 (36%) from three-point range. Southern Virginia shot 47% with six made 3-pointers. The Knights went 21-of-26 from the free throw line, while BC made 13 of 16 free throw attempts.
The game featured 10 lead changes and four tied scores. However, the Knights led for the final 10 minutes of the contest.
Brevard stretched out its largest lead, 52-45 with 12:50 to play in the second half. The Knights responded with an 11-0 run to take a 56-52 lead with 9:45 remaining.
A 3-pointer by White near the seven-minute mark cut the deficit to two. Southern Virginia however would respond again and keep BC at bay for the duration of the game.
Brevard will continue USA South Conference play with a road matchup at Pfeiffer University on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Misenheimer, North Carolina. The next home game for the Tornados is set for Saturday, January 13 at 2 p.m. vs. N.C. Wesleyan at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
