BREVARD, N.C. - Head Coach Juan Mascaro earned his 100th career coaching win, while the BC women's soccer team (9-0-2, 4-0-1 USA South) extended its over two-year home unbeaten streak to 16 total matches with a 3-0 triumph over Salem College (4-8, 0-6 USAS) on Wednesday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
Mascaro won his 77th game at the helm of the BC women's soccer program, marking his 100th collegiate win overall. The Tornados' best start to a season in NCAA program history rolled on with the win, as Brevard is unbeaten through 11 matches.
The Tornados have also gone over two calendar years without a home loss, with 16-straight positive home decisions dating back to October 16, 2022. BC has gone 14-0-2 at home over that span. Brevard has held opponents scoreless at home over a span of 11 home matches, adding up to 1,083 minutes played. BC last surrendered a home goal on September 16, 2023.
Kennedy Kelly scored the first two goals of her Tornado career on assists by Mikayla Rubin and Mikayla Zvekan. Kelly, a sophomore defender from Miami, Florida, opened the contest up with a goal off a corner kick in the 11th minute before doubling Brevard's lead in the 34th minute of play.
Mikayla Rubin and Mikayla Zvekan recorded assists on Kelly's goals, while Austin Huffman put the exclamation mark on BC's victory with a 77th minute score. Abby Nunez (4-0-2) kept her third complete-game clean sheet of the 2024 season.
BC was able to strike early in the 11th minute when the Tornados won a corner kick opportunity. Zvekan took the corner and placed the ball directly into the middle of the box, where Kelly was there to head the ball home into the back of the nylon for the early 1-0 edge, as the sophomore notched her first collegiate goal.
Kelly was not done yet however, as in the 34th minute Rubin played her the ball and the defender ripped a looping shot that was out of the reach of Salem's keeper as the ball floated into the top of the goal to double BC's advantage.
Huffman capped the scoring with a 77th minute strike where she dispossessed the defender's pass, dribbled all the way through the defense, and slid past the keeper for the goal.
Brevard took 40 shot attempts, marking the third time this season that the Tornados have attempted 40 or more shots in a single game. The Tornados dominated possession as well with 13 corner kick attempts.
BC is back on the road this Saturday for a matchup with NC Wesleyan at 1 p.m. in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
