ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (10-0-2, 5-0-1 USA South) kept the best start to a season in program NCAA history alive on Saturday, as the Tornados cruised to a 3–0 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan (5-9-1, 3-3-1 USAS) at Scalf Field in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
With the victory, the Tornados remain atop the USA South standings with just three conference matches remaining. Brevard is unbeaten through the first 12 matches and first six conference contests this season.
Brennan Howell recorded her first career multi-goal performance, as the Youngsville, North Carolina freshman forward put in a pair of goals.
Austin Huffman added a goal as well, while
Abby Nunez (5-0-2) recorded her fourth solo shutout of the season with four saves.
Brevard held a 15-4 shot advantage in the contest, with the Tornados putting an impressive 13 shots on target.
Howell broke through in the 30th minute for the Tornados by scoring her third goal of the season. Just over a minute later, Huffman was able to double BC's lead with a 31st minute strike. Brevard would take its 2-0 lead to halftime.
In the 76th minute, Howell secured her brace with her second goal of the contest, all but wrapping up Brevard's winning effort.
Brevard will take a brief reprieve from conference competition with a road match on Tuesday, October 22 at 6 p.m. against Johnson & Wales - Charlotte before returning home for a pair of conference matches vs. William Peace on Thursday, October 24 at 4 p.m. and Senior Day on Saturday, October 26 at 2 p.m. vs. Southern Virginia.
