MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (4-2) fell 73-58 to Berry College (5-1) on Tuesday evening at the Cage Center in Mount Berry, Georgia.
Brevard held a 40-28 halftime advantage after outscoring the Vikings 29-16 in the second quarter, however the hosts answered by outpacing the Tornados by a dominant 45-18 margin in the second half to flip the script and take the 15-point win.
Jada Petty-Wilkins led all Tornado scorers with 13 points and three made 3-pointers. Christena Rhone also scored in double figures with 11 points and three made 3-pointers as well. Josie Hester added nine points and a pair of long-distance buckets, and Makenna Parkins grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Kenadie Lee led four Viking scorers who reached double digits with 19 points and 11 rebounds in a double-double effort. Sylvia Kahoro scored 16 points and Briaiah Lewis totaled 14, with Elly Callihan securing a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Berry held a 12-11 lead after a low-scoring first quarter, but Brevard picked up the tempo in the second quarter, outscoring the Vikings 29-16 to take a 40-28 halftime lead. Rhone led all Tornado scorers at the break with nine points and three 3-pointers made. Perry-Wilkins added eight points with two made 3's, and Hester also canned a pair of triples. Parkins had four rebounds at the intermission, with Analee Morris and Lexi Shepard each dishing out three first-half assists.
Brevard's halftime lead was erased by the end of the third quarter as Berry scored 25 points to Brevard's 12, as the hosts held a slim one-point lead, 53-52. Berry scored 16 of the first 17 points in the fourth and decisive fourth quarter, as the Vikings outscored the Tornados 20-6 in the final stanza to take the 73-58 win.
Berry dominated the paint with a 50-10 margin on points in the paint. The Vikings shot at over a 50% clip in both the third and fourth quarters, while Berry held Brevard to just a 33% margin in the third period and a lowly 1-for-14 mark in the deciding fourth quarter.
Brevard returns after Thanksgiving break with a home contest on Tuesday, December 3 at 6 p.m. against NC Wesleyan.
