BREVARD, N.C. - Just under two minutes into overtime in the 2024 USA South Conference Tournament Championship match, USA South Tournament MVP Jorge Lamos scored a golden goal that lifted the William Peace Pacers (9-6-3) past Brevard College (8-4-3), 2-1, on Saturday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
With the victory, William Peace qualified for the NCAA DIII men's soccer tournament for the first time in program history.
Senior forward Ryan Lynch capped his illustrious Tornado career off with a free-kick goal just before halftime that gave the Tornados a one-goal advantage just before the intermission. However, the Pacers struck back by drawing a penalty early in the second half, converting to level the match. The 1-1 score held until the end of regulation.
William Peace's Lamos controlled a loose ball and scored under two minutes into the overtime stanza, clinching the victory for the Pacers.
The defeat halts a streak of consecutive appearances into the NCAA Tournament for the Tornados.
