ASHLAND, Va. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (5-4) took part in the Suyes Holiday Tournament on the campus of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia.
The Tornados opened action up on Saturday against Ursinus, falling 91-67 before wrapping up tournament play on Sunday in a narrow loss to Stevenson, 70-63.
URSINUS 91, BREVARD 67
The Tornados couldn't keep pace with the Bears on Saturday afternoon, falling by 24 in the tournament opener to Ursinus College.
BC was led by Twain Wilson off the bench, who scored 11 points and made three free throws. Drew Smith also contributed in reserve action, putting up 10 points as well. KK Horton led all starters with 10 points and five assists.
Ursinus had four players reach double digits in scoring, led by Trevor Wall who put up 21. The hot-shooting Bears made 56% of their field goals and drained 10 3-pointers.
Ursinus dominated down low, scoring 52 points in the paint and utilizing 18 second-chance points. Ursinus also held a commanding 43-27 rebounding advantage.
STEVENSON 70, BREVARD 63
BC was led by Charlie Hester and KK Horton who combined to score 38 of Brevard's 63 points on Sunday. Horton knocked in a team-high eight field goals and drilled three 3-pointers, while Hester was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line and added a team-high five rebounds. Brock McKnight and Twain Wilson each scored nine points off the bench as well for Brevard.
Stevenson was paced by Mason Jones, who scored a game-high 20 points. Ronald Ayers added 16 points, while Cameron Sapienza snagged 10 boards.
Despite the single-digit result, Stevenson kept the Tornados in check while holding a double-digit lead for most of the contest. Stevenson held a 34-20 edge in paint points and had a commanding 45-26 lead in the rebounding category, including 11 offensive boards. Brevard shot just 31% from the floor in the first half, and the Tornados were held to just two 3-point makes in the first period before knocking in eight long-distance buckets in the second half to bring their total to 10 for the game.
Brevard will look to bounce back as USA South Conference play opens up at home on Saturday, January 4 at 2 p.m. vs. Southern Virginia.
