Brevard Falls in Final Seconds at Bob Jones

Tornados Held Scoreless in Final Four Minutes on Tuesday

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Trevor Pittman converted an old-fashioned three-point play with 58 seconds to go and then sunk a contested layup with three seconds to play as the Bob Jones Bruins (2-2) denied the Brevard College men's basketball team (4-2) late with a two-point win, 66-64, on Tuesday evening at the Davis Field House in Greenville, South Carolina.

Overall, BJU held BC's high-octane offense to just seven made field goals and a 0-for-12 mark from long distance in the second half, as Brevard mustered just six points on three made field goals in the final 10 minutes of action. Brevard was shut out in the scoring column over the final 4:11 of action, as the Bruins went 8-0 over that stretch to take the victory.

Drew Smith led the scoring for Brevard, coming off the bench to total 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting and a 4-of-5 mark from long range. Jadon Carnes added 14 points on 5-for-7 from the field, while KK Horton stuffed the stat sheet with a double-double effort of 12 points and 10 boards alongside six assists. Brennan Wansley rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points and eight boards.

Bob Jones also featured four scorers in double figures, led by Devin Dean's 15 points. Pittman posted 13 points while Trevor Brunson added 12 and Justin Skelton totaled 11 as the quartet combined for 51 of BJU's 66 points.

Turnovers were aplenty for both sides as the two teams combined for 40, but BC's 22 mistakes turned into 20 points-off-turnovers for the hosts. Brevard assisted on 18 of its 24 field goals and hit eight first-half 3's, but the Tornados were blanked in the second half from distance and shot just 27% from the field in the second stanza, compared to BJU's 42% mark.

Brevard will compete in an NCAA DI exhibition Wednesday at 7 p.m. as the Tornados visit USC Upstate in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The contest will be streamed live on ESPN+ (subscription required).
