FERRUM, Va. – The Brevard College women's lacrosse team (0-1) fell 14-8 to host Ferrum (0-1) on Saturday afternoon at Adams Stadium in Ferrum, Virginia.

Emily Denaga and sophomore
Paige Kneubuhler led the Tornados offensively, each scoring three goals and recording one assist. Sophomore
Xan Hill recorded two goals and one assist to further the BC attack. Denaga also won nine draw controls. Freshman
Kelsey Hamrick registered her first career assist as a collegiate player.

Kyla Smith-Fondall made her collegiate debut, playing 45 minutes and recording eight saves. Fellow freshman
Amelia Fuentes also saw action, registering two saves in 15 minutes in her debut. Freshman
Kyla Smith-Fondall earned four ground balls, while Hill and senior
Grace Blanton each caused four turnovers.
Ferrum was led by Willow Cooper with six goals. Goalkeeper Faith Chubback earned the victory, allowing eight goals against, while recording six saves.
Cooper opened the scoring for Ferrum, before Denaga scored the first goal of the 2024 season for the Tornados off an assist by Kneubuhler with 8:15 to play in the first period. Ferrum and BC would trade goals with Hill and Denaga each scoring to tie the match at 2-2 and again at 3-3.
Ferrum then scored four consecutive goals to take a 7-3 lead into halftime. Following a Ferrum penalty, BC capitalized on a goal by Hill, assisted by Denaga. The hosts however pulled away with a 5-0 run to go up 12-4 and create a cushion throughout the fourth period en route to the win.
Ferrum outshot Brevard 30-19 and won the ground-ball battle 19-11. BC won 11 of the match's 25 draw controls.
The Tornados will return to action with their home opener on Saturday, February 24 vs. Eastern Mennonite. Start time is slated for 11 a.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
