CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (1-0) won its season opener in resounding fashion with a 8-1 victory at Johnson & Wales on Saturday afternoon in Charlotte, North Carolina.
BC swept the doubles competition, then cruised to the season-opening victory by winning five of the six singles matches.
Juniors
Hannah Hersh and
Madison Bowen combined for a 8-1 win in number one doubles. It marked Bowen's first win during Spring competition in a Brevard College uniform for the transfer from Greensboro.
Veteran tandem
Brooke Garland and
Sophie Trantham also won 8-1 in number two doubles. Junior Jade Ore and freshman
Gracie Spangler, also making their Spring season BC debut, took number three doubles. It marked the first collegiate win for Spangler and the first win in a Tornado uniform for Ore.
Trantham (no. 4) and Ore (no. 5) both won their singles matches without relinquishing a single game. Hersh won number one singles by the score of 6-2, 6-1. Bowen dominated her match as well, winning 6-1, 6-0 in number two singles. Garland rounded out the winning ways for the Tornados with a 6-1, 6-0 win in no. 3 singles.
Brevard will return to action with a road match at Piedmont in Demorest, Georgia on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
