COCHRAN, Ga. – The Brevard College softball team (1-3) dropped a road doubleheader at Middle Georgia State College (6-0) on Sunday in Cochran, Georgia. Middle Georgia State won the opening game 7-1 before taking game two by the score of 4-1.
GAME ONE: MIDDLE GEORGIA 7, BREVARD 1
Middle Georgia State scored two runs in the first, then pulled away with a four-run fifth inning to go along with an insurance run in the sixth to take the win.
Brevard's lone run came in the sixth inning as
Rylee Locklear broke up a no-hitter bid with an RBI single to drive in
Regan Winkler who had reached base via error. In the seventh,
MacKenzie Wilborne also reached base on a single, but was stranded as the Knights secured the win.
Junior pitcher
Grace Reynolds (0-2) started her second game of the season for the Tornados and allowed three earned runs over 4.2 innings. Freshman
Kayla Lowdermilk made her collegiate pitching debut with 1.1 innings of relief for BC.
Madisyn Riggins (2-0) of the Knights earned the win, allowing two hits and no earned runs with nine strikeouts and six walks over six innings.
GAME TWO: MIDDLE GEORGIA STATE 4, BREVARD 1
The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, then sprinkled single runs in each of the last three innings to take the second game of the doubleheader.
Freshman third baseman
Jadyn Harlow scored BC's lone run on a solo home run in the sixth inning. The blast marked the second homer in Harlow's collegiate career and the second in as many days having homered Saturday at Agnes Scot.
Wilborne and Winkler also collected base hits in the contest, each hitting singles.
Logan Masinsky (0-1) made her first career start as a collegiate and went the six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits.
The Tornados will return to action with their home opener for Brevard on Saturday, February 24 vs. Wesleyan beginning at 1 p.m. at the BC Softball Field.
