BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (17-9) concluded a record season with a 66-45 defeat vs. Southern Virginia University in the semifinals of the 2024 USA South Conference Tournament on Thursday in Buena Vista, Virginia.
The Tornados wrap up a season in which they won an NCAA-era record 17 games total. The campaign also marked the third-straight season that Brevard has won a home postseason contest.
Josie Hester, a First-Team All-Conference performer, scored 13 points and made seven free throws for the Tornados.
Makenna Parkins put up 10 points and one of Brevard's two 3-pointers in the first game that she has played in since January 12. Senior guard
Chyna Pouncey grabbed a team-best five rebounds.
Addison Newman led the Knights with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Ruth Kempler added 11 points. Maria Savvun scored double figures with 10 points as well, while Aysia Foster totaled eight points and six rebounds.
Southern Virginia scored 25 points-off-turnovers and 13 second-chance points while BC racked up 25 bench points.
Brevard and Southern Virginia battled throughout the contest, but the Knights held a double-digit edge through most of the matchup as BC was unable to break into the early advantage that SVU built up. The Knights now advance to the title game on Saturday vs. North Carolina Wesleyan.
