Tornados Dominate Quakers 11-3 for First Win of 2024

Gravely Breaks Career Caused Turnover Record, Corbett Reaches 100 Career Goals

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (1-5) picked up its first win of the 2024 season, dominating Wilmington College (4-4) by a final of 11-3 on Monday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Brevard senior defender Jacob Gravely set a new BC men's lacrosse career record for caused turnovers, while graduate attacker Parker Corbett reached the 100-goal mark for his overall collegiate career.

Corbett led all BC goalscorers with four goals while also assisting on three Tornado goals to set his new BC career high with seven total points. Brice Peterson scored a career-high three goals, with Drew Pond dishing out a career best five assists. Atticus Cooper's matched his career-high output, and BC's defense dominated allowing just three goals – the program's lowest mark since allowing just two goals on March 24, 2022 vs. Warren Wilson College. The Tornado defense also held Wilmington scoreless for a stretch of 38:30 in game time.

Gravely broke the career caused turnover record in the first half, and then proceeded to add to his newfound record by totaling three caused turnovers in the contest, with Corbett and Tyler Cameron causing two each. Logan Southern won a career-high five faceoffs going 5-for-9, and Cooper snatched a team-best seven ground balls. Jack Hicks (1-4) continued his solid form as of late in goal, making 19 total saves.

Wilmington's offense featured three different goal scorers, with Brock Fugate distributing the lone assist for the Quakers. Colin McLaughlin totaled seven ground balls and won four faceoffs.

BC outshot Wilmington 46-40 and had a 25-22 edge with on-target shots. The Tornados forced the visitors into 26 total turnovers, with 13 of those being caused. Wilmington went 17-for-20 on clear attempts to BC's 20-for-29 mark, while ground balls narrowly favored the Quakers (34-to-33). BC won more faceoffs than its opponent for the first time this season (9-to-7) and BC's man-down defense held Wilmington to a 2-for-9 mark on extra-man opportunities.

Brevard returns to action, closing out a five-game homestand on Thursday at 1 p.m. vs. Franciscan University.
