CLEVELAND, Ga. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (2-3) earned a tightly contested 4-3 win over Truett McConnell (3-9) in non-conference action on Thursday in Cleveland, Georgia.
BC's number one doubles team of juniors
Hannah Hersh and Madison Bowman won its match 6-3 to open play in doubles competition. The Bears then won number two doubles defeating BC's
Brooke Garland and
Sophie Trantham by the identical score.
The third doubles match proved to be a barnburner with TMU's team topping BC's
Jada Ore and
Gracie Spangler dropping a tight tiebreaker.
Down 2-1 after doubles competition, Brevard responded with strong results in singles play to take the team victory.
Hersh won number one singles 6-2, 6-3 over TMU's Ashley Johnson. Trantham took care of business in a tightly contested battle with Rebekah Scott in number four singles. BC's Ore and
Gracie Spangler won number five and six singles respectively, both posting scores of 6-2, 6-2.
With the non-conference win, Brevard will catapult into USA South Conference play with the league opener on Saturday at North Carolina Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
