Impressive Results for Tornados at LR Bears Open

HICKORY, N.C. - The Brevard College men's and women's track & field teams competed in their second event of the 2024 season and came through with several impressive results at the LR Bears Open at the Lenoir Rhyne University Track in Hickory, North Carolina.

Junior Haylea-Layne Miller put up strong results in multiple events, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the Women's 400 meters with a time of 1:16.64. Miller also placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles and 11th in Women's Long Jump. – 4th in Women's 400 meters 1:16.64

Senior Channing Barker finished in fourth place in the Women's 800 meters with a time of 2:28.42 as another of the day's top performances. Barker also placed 10th in the 1500 meters in a competitive field of 35 runners.

Additionally, junior Sandra Diaz-Martinez placed third in the Women's 3000-meter Steeplechase. Senior Isabell Musser finished 10th in both Women's Shot Put and Women's Discus. Musser also placed 14th in the Hammer Throw.

On the men's side, Senior Devon Brodmyer earned a podium finish with a time of 1:58.66 in the Men's 800 meters. Brodmyer also raced in a field of 35 runners in the 1500 meters, finishing 13th (4:14.29).

Sophomore Jaxsen Wilkerson put up strong performances in four different events. Wilkerson placed seventh in both Javelin and High Jump, while finishing in 11th place in both Long Jump and the 110-meter hurdles.

Senior Garrett Spangler finished seventh in the Men's 3000-meter Steeplechase and 24th in the 800 meters. Sophomore Owen Plucar put up a strong 10th-place performance in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.10. Plucar also placed 20th in the 1500 meters.

Sophomore Noah Westbrook placed 12th in the Shot Put to lead the BC throwers on the men's side. BC's Henry Tarte placed 16th in the Men's Discus.

Next up for Brevard is a trip to nearby Montreat, North Carolina for the Montreat Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 22-23.
