BREVARD, N.C. – Junior goalkeeper
Scott Bundy made 29 saves to match the Brevard College single-game school record, but the BC men's lacrosse team (1-8, 0-2) suffered a 16-3 setback to Methodist University (7-4, 4-0 USAS) late Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
Bundy, a third-year Tornado from Cumberland, Rhode Island, stopped a career-best 29 shots in the game to match Andrew Reilly's program-record 29 saves set in the program's first season of competition 10 years ago in a 13-3 defeat at Belmont Abbey on March 5, 2014.
Bundy was under constant duress throughout the game, as Methodist fired off a grand total of 68 shot attempts on the Tornados.
Atticus Cooper put in a goal and added an assist for BC's offense.
Gage Khayat and
Brice Peterson each found the back of the net as well for Brevard. Bundy snagged a team-best nine ground balls, while
Tyler Cameron added five GBs and
Parker Corbett recorded four. Cameron, Corbett, and
Jacob Gravely each caused a pair of turnovers, and
Logan Southern won four faceoffs for the Tornados.
Jacob Burnette scored four goals to lead the way for the Monarchs, while Ryan Kavounis (three goals) and Nate Moore (two goals) also recorded multiple goals for the visitors, as 10 different Methodist players scored in the game.
The Tornados are back at home next Saturday, April 6, hosting a doubleheader with the women's team. BC MLAX will take on William Peace University at 2 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
