BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (1-9, 0-3 USA South) fell 9-7 in a close matchup to USA South Conference foe William Peace University (2-7, 1-3 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
The Tornados started out hot, scoring three of the four first-quarter goals to open up a 3-1 edge. However, the script was flipped in the second period when the Pacers outscored the Tornados 5-1 to take a 6-4 lead into the intermission.
Parker Corbett scored a team-best four goals, with Gage Khayat and Nate Stone each recording a goal and an assist. Atticus Cooper also scored a goal for the Brevard offense.
Corbett scored his second goal of the game just over a minute into the third period to cut the deficit to one goal, but three-consecutive Pacer goals gave the visitors a game-high 9-5 edge early in the fourth quarter. Corbett scored twice down the stretch, but it proved too little too late as William Peace earned its first USA South win of the season.
Logan Southern won a career-high nine faceoffs, while freshman LSM Tyler Cameron snatched a career-best 11 ground balls and caused three turnovers. Nick Charania, Max Dorman, and Jacob Gravely also all caused three turnovers apiece, as the Tornados as a unit caused a total of 14 turnovers.
Brevard ended the contest outshooting WPU 47-41, but William Peace made 14 crucial saves to hold the Tornado offense at bay. WPU edged the ground ball battle 45-41, and won 10 of the 19 total faceoffs.
Jamar Bell stole the show for the Pacers, scoring six of WPU's nine total goals. Brandon Goad added two goals, with Zachary Fields also finding the back of the net and William English distributing both of WPU's assists.
