Record Night for Men’s Lacrosse in 26-6 Rivalry Rout of Warren Wilson

Corbett Sets Single-Game Assists and Points Records; Tornados Break Single-Game Goals (26), Shots (79), and Ground Balls (76) Marks

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (2-9) scored a program-record 26 goals in a dominant 26-6 showing over Western North Carolina rival Warren Wilson College (0-10) on Tuesday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field in the third-annual Battle of the Blue Ridge rivalry game.

The Tornados retain the rivalry trophy for the third-straight season behind a record offensive performance, as several Tornados either set or matched career-high scoring outputs, as BC shattered the single-game program goals record set in 2017 vs. Shorter University (23 goals).

Graduate attacker Parker Corbett highlighted the day, setting a pair of single-game program records with nine assists and 13 total points – both of which broke previous program highs. Corbett's nine assists surpasses a record held by Adam Widermann, who distributed seven assists twice in 2015. The previous points record of 12 was accomplished by Jackson McKaig twice in 2019.

Sophomore attacker Gage Khayat scored a career-high five goals to lead the BC offense, while Corbett added four and Atticus Cooper scored a career-best four goals as well. Nate Stone added a career-high three goals with seven ground balls, and Brice Peterson matched his career-high goals mark with three goals as well as an assist for four total points.

Senior defender Michael Peters got in on the goal-scoring fun for Brevard, notching the first three goals of his Tornado career with three scores to go alongside an assist for four points, while also contributing five ground balls to BC's defensive efforts. Jacob Hernandez scored a career-high two goals, and Will Scoggins added a goal and an assist for two points. Freshman defender Eddie Bell found the back of the net for the first time of his Tornado career while also snatching five ground balls, as nine different BC student-athletes registered goals in the contest.

BC's defensive performance was highlighted by freshman LSM Tyler Cameron, who snagged a career-high 19 ground balls and caused five turnovers. Cameron's 19 ground balls are the second-most single-game ground balls in program history, and the most since Ryan Taylor registered 21 ground balls vs Emmanuel on February 14, 2015.

BC men's lacrosse all-time caused turnover leader Jacob Gravely added to his record total with five caused turnovers and registered four ground balls as well. Junior faceoff specialist Logan Southern won a career-best 18 faceoffs and added the first five ground balls of his Tornado career.

Goalkeeping duties were split between BC junior duo of Scott Bundy (1-4) and Jack Hicks, with Bundy stopping five shots and Hicks adding a pair of second-half saves.

Warren Wilson was anchored by a four-goal performance by Saiquan Bell, while Jude Searles added a score and Timmy Carcel scored and logged WWC's lone assist of the evening. Cameron Phillips snatched 10 ground balls to lead all Owls, while goalkeeper Anthony Varela made an impressive 25 saves and recorded eight ground balls.

As an offensive unit, the Tornados fired off 79 shot attempts, which is far-and-away their season-high and breaks the previous single-game program record for shot attempts of 70 set last season vs. Spalding (February 24, 2023). BC outpaced WWC in shots 79-24, but Warren Wilson was able to accumulate 25 saves in the contest. Brevard's defense forced 36 total Owl turnovers, and pressured the visitors into a 12-for-23 mark in clear attempts and grabbed 76 ground balls to WWC's 38. BC also won 20 of 35 total faceoffs, with the Owls capitalizing on one man-up opportunity. Brevard's 76 ground balls secured shattered last season's record of 66 notched vs. Spalding.

Brevard asserted its dominance from the onset, scoring 10 unanswered goals in the first period alone before the visitors found the back of the net for the first time late in the period, as the Tornados held a 10-1 edge. BC outpaced Warren Wilson 7-3 in the second quarter to hold a controlling 13-goal lead, 17-4, after the first half of play.

Brevard tacked on even further to its lead, with Corbett notching his record-breaking eighth assist of the game early in the third quarter as the Tornados extended their lead to a 23-5 edge. Cooper scored a man-down goal at the 8:59 mark in the fourth period that broke the program single-game goals record, and the Tornados added two more scores late to wrap up the impressive 20-goal win, 26-6.
