GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Brevard College women's lacrosse team (6-4, 3-0 USAS) won its fourth consecutive contest and remained perfect in USA South Conference play with a resounding 19-1 victory over host Greensboro College (0-8, 0-3 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at Pride Field in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Junior
Emily Denaga matched her career-high with seven goals to lead all players in the victory. The all-time leading goal scorer in school history, Denaga matched her previous high for goals set last season vs. Piedmont.
Additionally, Denaga registered two assists en route to matching a career-best with 11 points.
Sophomore
Paige Kneubuhler scored a season-high four goals, while sophomore
Xan Hill recorded three goals. Freshman
Madi Norris set a career-high for scoring as a collegiate with two goals.
Freshman
Sofia Hardin scored her first career collegiate goal. Fellow freshmen
Arianna Casertano and
Kelsey Hamrick also scored for the Tornados in the victory.
Goalkeeper
Kyla Smith-Fondall continued her winning ways, protecting the net for the Tornados. Smith-Fondall and the Brevard defense have allowed just five goals in three conference matchups.
Brevard outshot the Pride by a whopping 37-5 margin in the affair. BC also outperformed GC 17-8 in the ground-balls category.
Both teams were scoreless for the first five minutes until Kneubuhler found the back of the net off an assist by Denaga. Goals by Hardin and Norris then extended the lead to 3-0 at the end of the first period.
The Tornados opened the second quarter with back-to-back goals by Denaga and Kneubuhler. Denaga then scored again off an assist by
Lex MacLauchlin to take a 6-0 lead.
In total, Brevard went on a 10-0 run to open the game, capped off by a second goal by Norris with 6:19 to play before half.
BC led 11-1 at intermission, then cruised to the victory after outscoring the Pride 8-0 in the second half.
The Tornados will return to action on Tuesday evening with a home contest vs. Pfeiffer. Start time is set for 6 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
