BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's lacrosse team (2-2) fell in non-conference play to Albion College (3-1), 17-4 on Monday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
Brevard kept the game within striking distance, taking a 2-1 lead early in the second quarter and tying the contest back up at 3-3 midway through the second period. However, Albion caught fire, outscoring BC 14-1 down the stretch to break the game open and earn the road win.
Junior midfielder Emily Denaga led BC's offense with a hat trick of three goals. Xan Hill dished out two assists and Grace Blanton scored her first goal of the season. Kelsey Hamrick and Paige Kneubuhler also dished out assists as Brevard recorded four assists on four goals scored.
Defensively, Blanton, Hill, Kneubuhler, and Lex MacLauchlin all caused two turnovers each. Kyla Smith-Fondall (1-2) and Amelia Fuentes each saw time in goal for Brevard, with Smith-Fondall earning the start while making five saves in addition to Fuentes' four stopped shots.
Albion's Audrey DeWaters and Kellie Flynn each scored four goals apiece, as five Britons registered multiple goals in the contest. The visitors held a commanding 31-10 shot advantage, forced BC into 25 total turnovers, won the draw control battle 16 to seven, and went 18-for-21 on clear attempts.
The Tornados return to action on Friday at 1 p.m., facing Guilford College at Ives-Lemel Family Field as part of a doubleheader with the BC men's lacrosse program.
