MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (7-5) handed Maryville College (11-6) a 6-3 road loss in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at the MC Tennis Courts on the Maryville College campus in Maryville, Tennessee.
The Tornados overcame a 2-1 team deficit after doubles play and won five out of six singles matches for the three-point victory.
Maryville was able to take the numbers one and two doubles matches, but Jada Ore and Sophie Trantham teamed up for an 8-2 win in number-three doubles action.
Junior Hannah Hersh earned a 6-4, 6-2 win in top-flight singles action, while Madison Bowen followed suit with a thriller in number-three singles, winning the first set 6-3 before a tight 7-6 win in the second set via a 7-4 tiebreaker.
Graduate Brooke Garland edged her number-four singles opponent Alyssa Smith 7-5, 7-5, while Ore handled number-six singles with ease, sweeping 6-0, 6-0.
Trantham battled Abby Diggs in number-five singles play, falling 2-6 in the first set before bouncing back with a 6-4 result in the second set, sending the match to a winner-take-all third set tiebreaker. Trantham pulled out the tiebreak win, 10-7, and wrapped up the 6-3 win for the Tornados.
BC is back in action this weekend, traveling to Fayetteville, North Carolina to take on Methodist University in conference action on Saturday at 11 a.m.
