Hill Tallies 100th Career Point as Tornados Soar Past Hawks, 17-5

Tornados Cruise as Xan Hill Reaches 100 Career Points

BREVARD, N.C. – Sophomore attacker/midfielder Xan Hill registered the 100th point of her collegiate career as the Brevard College women's lacrosse team (8-5, 5-1 USA South) controlled the game start to finish in a 17-5 victory over Huntingdon College (2-8, 2-4 USAS) on a sunny Saturday at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
 
Hill, a second-year Tornado from Fort Mill, South Carolina, scored four goals and dished out three assists for seven total points, registering her 100th career point late in the first quarter on her second goal of the game. Hill also totaled three ground balls and four caused turnovers as well in the win.
 
Emily Denaga scored four goals, grabbed six ground balls, caused a team-high five turnovers, and won six draw controls. Paige Kneubuhler added two goals, two assists, a team-best seven ground balls, and four caused turnovers, as the trio combined for 13 of BC's 20 caused turnovers in the game.
 
Arianna Casertano and Grace Vaught each tallied two goals apiece, with Grace Blanton scoring and assisting on two goals with two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Tori Dingle and Kelsey Hamrick each added goals as well, with Madi Norris notching an assist. Kyla Smith-Fondall racked up three saves in the 60-minute winning effort.
 
Huntingdon's Kate Hudson scored four times to lead the Hawks, while Reagan Barrett also found the back of the net.
 
BC's defense forced Huntingdon into 29 total turnovers, with 20 of them being caused. The Tornados held a 30-12 shooting advantage, grabbed 28 ground balls to HC's 14, won 13 of 24 total draw controls, and went 4-for-7 on free-position shots.
 
Brevard opened up the first quarter with six consecutive goals before the Hawks got on the board with 46 remaining in the period. Just over 30 seconds later, Kneubuhler put in a free-position goal that gave the Tornados a 7-1 lead through one quarter of play.
 
BC found the back of the net three straight times to start the second quarter, and ended the half on a 3-0 scoring run to take a 13-2 margin into the intermission. Brevard outscored Huntingdon 4-3 in the second half to run away with the 17-5 conference win.
 
The Tornados return to play on Wednesday, April 17 at 5 p.m., hitting the road to face Piedmont University in Demorest, Georgia.
