CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Brevard College men's and women's track & field teams shined in a highly competitive field, mainly comprised of NCAA Division I teams, at this weekend's Catamount Classic in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
On the women's side, senior
Channing Barker led the Tornados with a seventh place finish out of 38 runners in the women's 800 meters. With a time of 2:15.73, Barker was the highest finishing non-Division I performer in the field of the 800.
Sophomore
Makayla Street placed 10th out of 25 entries in the women's 200 meters with a time of 25.68. Street also placed eighth in the triple jump and 19th in the long jump.
Junior
Sandra Diaz-Martinez ran a strong 1500 meters to finish 24th out of 42 entries, while also competing in the 800 meters.
Also on the women's side, junior
Haylea-Layne Miller raced in the 400-meter hurdles and competed in long jump. Freshmen
Imani Singleton and
Anne Herring both competed in the 100 meters, while
Kayla Jean and
Karis King both raced in the women's 400 meters.
Versatile performer
Jaxsen Wilkerson came up big with a third-place result in the triple jump with a mark of 14.26 meters. Wilkerson's result in the triple jump ranks 16th nationally in NCAA Division III. Additionally, a jump of 6.55 meters gave Wilkerson a seventh-place finish in the long jump
Also competitive in jumps was freshman
Kellun Triplett who placed sixth in the triple jump and 11th in the long jump.
In running events, senior
Devon Brodmyer finished an impressive 15th place out of 49 entries in the men's 1500 meters with a time of 4:07.75. Brodmyer also finished 15th, running a 1:57.62 in the 800 meters.
BC's
Reggie Taylor II and
Antonio Damalos competed in sprints, while
Seth Robinson raced in the 400-meter hurdles.
Noah Westbrook led the Tornados in throws with a 10th-place result in shot put with a throw of 13.84 meters to go along with a javelin throw of 38.35 meters, good for 15th place.
Brevard's
Dakota George,
Henry Tarte and
Brian Seon also competed in men's throwing events in addition to Westbrook. On the women's side,
Mary Vallentine and
Isabell Musser both competed in throws for Brevard.
Next up for the Tornados is the USA South Conference Championships on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
