GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Brevard College baseball team (17-16) scored five-straight runs in the game's final three innings, but narrowly fell 9-8 on the road at Bob Jones University (7-22) on Tuesday evening in Greenville, South Carolina
Freshman Easton King hit his first career home run, a three-run shot, that pulled the Tornados within three runs, 9-6, after Davis Bryson recorded an RBI knock earlier in the top of the seventh. BC loaded the bases in the top of the eighth with one out but were unable to score any runs.Â
With runners on the corners and one out in the top of the ninth, Tyler Hinkle singled home Carson Whitehead, cutting the deficit to just two runs at 9-7. Bryson notched another RBI single with two outs in the top of the ninth, bringing Hinkle around to score. King was hit in the next at-bat to load the bases, put a pop up ended the game with Brevard narrowly falling by one run.Â
Hinkle went 3-for-3 at the dish to lead Brevard in hits, with Bryson collecting a pair of RBI singles. King drove in a team-high three RBI following his home run, while Mykah Johnson also recorded a pair of RBI.Â
Brevard used a total of five pitchers on Tuesday, with Cody Southern earning his first career start. Greg Simmons, Cole Penland, Kalen Milstead, and Kaden Tuten all worked on the mound for Brevard, with Milstead and Tuten each recording shutout frames for Brevard.Â
The regular season concludes for Brevard with a three-game set at Mary Baldwin on Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28 in Virginia.Â
