CONCORD, N.C. – The Brevard College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams delivered impressive results at the USA South Conference Championships held Friday and Saturday at the Jay M. Robinson Mondo Track & Field Facility in Concord, North Carolina. Three Brevard College student-athletes –
Isabell Musser,
Noah Westbrook and
Jaxsen Wilkerson - combined for a total of four individual conference championships at the event.
In the team results, Brevard finished fourth place in both the men's and the women's competition. Southern Virginia won the men's championship with Pfeiffer placing second and Methodist third. On the women's side, SVU also took the conference team title followed by Pfeiffer and Methodist.
Musser, a senior from Brevard, North Carolina, won the individual championship in Women's Discus with a throw of 34.49 meters. Musser earned a second podium finish with a second-place result in the Shot Put (11.05 meters), while also competing in the Javelin and Hammer Throw.
In throws on the men's side, Westbrook won the Shot Put with a throw of 13.39 meters. Westbrook, a sophomore from Princeton, North Carolina, also competed in the Javelin, Discus and Hammer. BC's
Henry Tarte placed third in Discus (38.99 meters),
Dakota George finished sixth in Hammer (32.48 meters) and Wilkerson placed third in Javelin (46.10 meters).
Wilkerson delivered with two individual championships, winning in the Men's Triple Jump (14.48 meters) and the 110 meter hurdles (16.12 seconds). The sophomore from Granite Falls, North Carolina earned a grand total of four podiums with a second-place result in Long Jump (6.65 meters) to go along with his two championships and his third-place finish in the Javelin.
Freshman
Kellun Triplett also found the podium with third-place finishes in both the Men's Long Jump (6.51 meters) and the Triple Jump (6.51 meters).
On the women's side in jumps, sophomore
Makayla Street earned two second-place results to go along with a third-place finish. Street jumped 10.59 meters in the Women's Triple Jump, good for second-place. She also finished second in the High Jump (1.55 meters) and third in the Long Jump (4.88 meters). Additionally, Street raced in the Women's 100 meters where she placed fourth to go along with a sixth-place result in the 200 meters.
Street also anchored Brevard's 4x100 meter relay in one of the most exciting events of the weekend. In an extremely close race, the BC team of
Imani Singleton,
Kayla Jean,
Haylea-Layne Miller and Street, finished just 1.16 seconds behind race winners Methodist to place second in the relay.
Junior
Channing Barker finished second in two highly competitive running events. The Dunlap, Tennessee native placed second in both the Women's 800 meters (4:48.82) and 1500 meters (4:48.82).
Additionally in women's running competition, junior
Sandra Diaz-Martinez placed seventh in the 800 meters and sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Senior
Zoe Capps finished fifth in the Women's 10,000 meters and eighth in the 5.000 meters. Miller raced in the Women's 400 hurdles where she placed sixth, while Jean (6th place) and freshman
Karis King (9th) represented Brevard in the Women's 400 meters. Miller, Jean, Barker and Diaz-Martinez made up BC's 4x400 meter relay team with the Tornados placing fourth.
On the men's side in running events, sophomore
Owen Plucar placed third in the 800 meters (2:00.73). Senior
Garrett Spangler placed fourth in both the Men's 5,000 meters and the 10,000 meters, while finishing fifth in the 3,000 meter Steeplechase.
Devon Brodmyer finished fifth in the Men's 1500 meters. Other men's running results included sophomore
Reggie Taylor II placed fifth in the Men's 100 meters and eighth in the 200 meters.
