CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Brevard College women's 4x100 meter relay team set an NCAA-era school record, while sophomore
Makayla Street continued her sensational 2024 season with strong individual performances to lead the BC track & field team at this weekend's Johnson C. Smith Collegiate Invitational in Charlotte, North Carolina. A limited number of Tornado athletes made the trip for the event that featured a strong field from the region.
The Brevard women's 4x100 meter team set a NCAA-era school record with a time of 51.76 en route to a fourth-place finish. In the school-record breaking team effort, junior
Haylea-Layne Miller ran the first leg and handed the baton to sophomore
Imani Singleton. Freshman
Kayla Jean ran the third leg with Street taking the Tornados home with the anchor leg.
Street continued her prowess in individual events as well with an impressive fourth-place result out of 32 entries in the women's 100 meters. The nationally ranked Street ran a time of 12.39 to catapult into the top-30 in NCAA Division III.
In the high jump, Street delivered with a performance of 1.52 meters to finish third in the event's final standings.
Singleton raced in the women's 100 meters as well, placing 21st with a time of 13.94.
Miller and Jean also raced in the women's 400 meters. Miller placed 15th with a time of 1:06.55. Jean finished 18th with a 1:09.71.
On the men's side,
Reggie Taylor II placed 20th (23.97) in the 200 meters and 24th (11.50) in the 100 meters. Taylor also competed in the long jump, earning a 12th place finish with a leap of 6.10 meters.
Dakota George and
Brian Seon both performed in the men's shot put with George also competing in the hammer throw where he placed fifth out of six throwers with an effort of 24.90 meters.
The Brevard College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams will host the inaugural Tornado Classic on Friday at the Frank Patton Track on the BC campus.
