WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Brevard College women's soccer team (12-0-0, 6-0-0 USA South) continued its winning ways, securing its 12
th-consecutive victory with a 4-0 triumph over Salem College (3-6-4, 0-4-2 USAS) at Varsity Field.
Brevard's offense scored multiple goals for the 11
th time this season, as the Tornados have reached four or more goals in seven of their 12 matches in 2025. BC's defense recorded its ninth shutout, with
Abby Nunez (9-0-0) posting her fourth combined clean sheet and sixth total. Sophomore goalkeeper
Madison West made her season debut, logging 11 minutes in goal with her first two collegiate saves.
Carissa Jenkins broke through for the first goal of the match and her first collegiate goal.
Mikayla Zvekan scored her 14
th goal of the season, while
Mikayla Rubin connected with
Brennan Howell off a corner kick in the 63
rd minute. In the final minutes of the victory,
Catie Barton fed
Kinlee Mozley, who scored for the ninth time this year to round out the goal scoring for BC.
With the win, Brevard extends its unbeaten streak to 30 matches dating to the end of the 2023 season, the third-longest unbeaten streak in the nation among Division III women's soccer teams. Through 12 matches this Fall, Brevard has outscored opponents 59-3 and continues to rank among the nation's statistical leaders. BC's 12 wins to start the 2025 campaign are also the program's best-ever start to a season in the NCAA era.
Rubin took BC's first shot attempt of the match inside of the first minute, and the Tornados won their first corner just three minutes into action.
Kiara Porcelli put Brevard's first on-target shot on frame in the ninth minute, forcing a save from Salem keeper Michaela Iapaluccio. Rubin fired her second shot of the first period in the 12
th minute, as the Tornados continued to apply pressure on the Spirit defense.
Zvekan, the leading goal-scorer for the Tornados in 2025, took her first two shot attempts in the 15
th minute, putting one on target. Zvekan and Rubin each took shots in the 22
nd minute of play as BC ran its shot tally to eight halfway through the first half of action.
Zvekan again forced an Iapaluccio save, the keeper's fifth stop of the first half, in the 33
rd minute. Salem countered with its first corner kick opportunity in the 34
th minute, but Brevard's defense held firm.
Brevard was able to break through in the 43
rd minute as Jenkins found the back of the net. The first-year Tornado from Alpharetta, Georgia recovered a loose ball from the Salem back line and curled a left-footed shot into the left corner of the net to put BC up 1-0 at the halftime intermission.
BC held a dominant 12-0 shot advantage in the first half of play, putting six shots on target with four corner kicks. Zvekan accounted for six of BC's 12 total shots, logging four on goal. Rubin also took multiple shot attempts in the first half, totaling three.
Brevard wasted no time showcasing its offensive firepower in the second half, as Zvekan scored her 14
th goal of 2025 in the 48
th minute to double BC's lead. The senior forward from Draper, Utah, added to her BC NCAA era career goal record, intercepting a Spirit pass before her right-footed shot nestled into the right side of the net.
The pressure delivered by Brevard's constant attacking presence continued to pay off later in the match. In the 63
rd minute, the Tornados won a corner, and Rubin's delivery found Howell, who fired a left-footed shot past the traffic and into the right side of the goal to push the BC lead up to three goals. The sequence marked Howell's fourth goal of 2025 and Rubin's ninth assist.
Mozley played a through ball down the near sideline to Barton, who cut through the defense and played the ball back to Mozley towards the middle of the box. Mozley's ninth goal of 2025 in the 89
th minute of action capped off the 4-0 victory for the Tornados.
BC ended the contest with a dominant 39-4 shot advantage, as the Tornados racked up 18 shots on goal and took a total of nine corner kicks.
Brevard returns home for Senior Day on Saturday, as the Tornados face North Carolina Wesleyan at 1 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field. Brevard's eight graduating seniors will be honored before the match:
