BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's soccer team (13-0-0, 7-0-0 USA South) blanked N.C. Wesleyan (5-8-1, 3-4-0 USAS) 2-0 on Senior Day Saturday at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
Prior to kickoff, BC women's soccer honored its eight graduating seniors —
Nico Arroyo,
Olivia Guillermo,
Izzy Hagen,
Zoe Hughes,
Mackenzie Lozano,
Schuyler Pettibone,
Kiara Porcelli and
Mikayla Zvekan.
Zvekan, a record-setting senior forward from Draper, Utah, found the back of the net for the 15th time this season with a strike off an assist from
Carissa Jenkins. Sophomore midfielder
Brennan Howell added insurance in the 77th minute, converting a well-placed ball from sophomore forward
Kinlee Mozley.
Arroyo, a senior goalkeeper from Yulee, Florida, made several key saves to preserve the clean sheet. The shutout marked the 18th solo shutout of her collegiate career and her 26th overall victory in goal.
With the win, Brevard extended its unbeaten streak to 31 matches dating to the end of the 2023 season — the third-longest active streak in NCAA Division III women's soccer. Through 13 matches this fall, the Tornados have outscored opponents 61-3 and continue to rank among the nation's statistical leaders. BC's 13 wins to start the 2025 campaign mark the best start to a season in program history during the NCAA era.
Brevard's attack was relentless Saturday, firing 23 shots — 13 on target — led by Zvekan's 10 attempts. The Tornados outshot the Battling Bishops 23-6, while NC Wesleyan goalkeeper play kept the margin close with 11 saves, including seven in the second half.
Zvekan placed BC's first shot on frame in the 15th minute, then followed with two more in the 20th and 21st minutes before breaking through in the 35th with a stellar strike from nearly 25 yards out.
NC Wesleyan's defense held strong for much of the second half until Howell doubled BC's advantage in the 77th minute, capitalizing on Mozley's over-the-top pass. The Tornados' defense locked down from there to secure their 13th straight victory.
Brevard steps out of conference play Tuesday, Oct. 21, hosting Johnson & Wales–N.C. at 6 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
